About

About OpenGovWatch

OpenGovWatch is a platform for watching official political livestreams from international institutions and national governments — all in one place.

The goal is simple: give people direct access to the source. No summaries, no commentary, no framing. Just the original stream, as broadcast by the official channel.

Alongside each stream, users can create structured posts and engage in focused discussion. Posts are tied to a specific channel, keeping conversations relevant and grounded in what is actually being said.

OpenGovWatch is built on the belief that access to unfiltered political information is a public good. Transparency starts with being able to see and hear what is happening directly.

What counts as a government stream?

OpenGovWatch indexes official YouTube channels operated by government bodies — parliaments, senates, city councils, ministries, and international organizations such as the United Nations and European Parliament.

The platform applies no political filter. Channels are included based on whether they represent a recognized governing authority and broadcast official proceedings. This includes governments-in-exile, regional assemblies, and transitional authorities.

Local government

In addition to national parliaments, OpenGovWatch indexes municipal council streams. City councils in the Netherlands and Belgium are currently available, with more countries being added.

Local government streams are often the most directly relevant to citizens — covering zoning decisions, budget debates, and local policy that affects daily life.

Early Stage

OpenGovWatch has recently launched and is currently in an early stage.

The platform will continue to expand with more channels, countries, and features over time. Suggestions for channels to add are welcome.
